BOOK DEVON HOTELS

River Taw, Devon

River Taw
The River Taw originates in the Dartmoor National Park in south west England. The river flows into the Bristol Channel on the north coast of Devon at an estuary that it shares with the River Torridge . The estuary is host to one of the most important nature reserves in England, the Braunton Burrows. This is a Unesco Bioshpere Reserve and a Special Area of Conservation. There are stone circles near the source of the river at Taw Marsh and archaeologists have uncovered further evidence of prehistoric human existence there. The river is home to an important population of otters and is one of only two places in Britain where the sandbowl snail can be found.
