BOOK DEVON HOTELS

East Lyn Valley, Devon | Somerset

East Lyn Valley, cut into the landscape by the East Lyn River , is a flourishing area of flora and fauna in Devon and Somerset in England. Shaped by glacial erosion in the Ice Age over 20,000 years ago, one side of the valley was left as a violent and abrupt drop. This feature lead to flooding in 1952 . Whilst the flood itself was not the biggest flood Britain has seen this point, the level of destruction caused by the rapid flowing water carrying huge boulders was catastrophic. It resulted in over one hundred buildings being damaged or destroyed and the loss of thirty-four lives.
