All Castle Hotels in Britain

It is something that most of our ancestors – unless you happen to come from the aristocracy - could only have dreamed of doing: staying in a castle. Whether the place has been converted into a hotel or you have taken a cottage or lodge in the grounds, that’s style.
The castles we list vary from the medieval to the relatively modern, the Victorian era being almost contemporary in comparison to the Norman times that produced some of these structures. We have castles in the middle of towns, and others surrounded by the greenest of countryside, with maybe a few deer to add that Robin Hood touch.
Unlike some of our forebears, you won’t be met with boiling oil on arrival but with a welcoming smile, and maybe a few snippets about the castle’s history, all part of what can be a truly atmospheric stay. The very stones breathe history. Some of the buildings may even have a ghost or two you can look out for, or try to avoid!
Until that elusive lottery win a few nights beneath the battlements that have probably witnessed more than a few knights on them will have to do – and will do very nicely thanks.
