Birling Gap, Sussex

Birling Gap
Birling Gap is situated on the Seven Sisters , near to Beachy Head in East Sussex. The area is owned by the National Trust and suffers from constant coastal erosion, which has already washed away some of the fishing cottages that were built there in 1878. The chalk cliffs at Birling Gap frame the beach to the east and west and offer visitors a delightful viewing point of the coast. Open grassland, rich with butterflies and wild flora, provide a wonderful backdrop to the beach. Featuring rock pools and areas of pebbles and sand, Birling Gap has been designated as a marine nature reserve.
