Louth is a pretty Market town ‘Capital of the Lincolnshire Wolds’ where many buildings date back to the 17th and 18th Century, the oldest streets in the town are East Gate and Westgate, and Louth bridges two different Hemispheres as the Greenwich Meridian Line passes through here. The Museum has interesting Medieval and Roman artefacts, and the church a dominating spire soaring to 295’, St James, built in the 15th Century is the tallest Medieval spire in the country. The area is ideal for explorers whether on foot or cycle or how about a journey on a steam locomotive, the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway is close by and gives the traveller an insight into the glorious age of steam travel. Or perhaps the great outdoors beckons, the wonders of Mother Nature is definitely at her finest at Hubbards Hills, where the beautiful Ravine and Riverside walks along the banks of the River Lud will lift any spirit, or there is always Rushmoor Country Park set in 5 acres of grounds with rare birds and a fragrant herb garden what more could be wished for, perhaps Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes on Lincolnshire’s coast , the evocative setting of Dunes and Meadows with Nature trails that share flowers and even the sea. Or if the roar of racing cars hurtling around a track is more for you, Cadwell Park, is a picturesque motor Circuit, for theatre lovers why not try the state of the art River Head Theatre where Opera, Music, Dance and Drama are definitely top of the bill. For artists and photographers the challenge of capturing the beguiling setting at Claythorpe Watermill and Wildfowl Gardens is a real one, with the Mill reflecting in the water and the stunning setting where 500 birds wander freely, why not pic nic in the ‘enchanted woods’…….perfect.
