Bradford is a city rich in history, unique heritage and cultural diversity.
Two centuries ago the city was a key player in the industrial revolution and growing fast with the boom in the wool trade.
In the mid-1800s it was estimated that two-thirds of the country's wool production was processed in Bradford. European merchant settlers brought money and prestige and with it the city became known as the wool capital of the world.
Today, Bradford is a centre of commerce and finance but the legacies of its industrial past are still evident in wonderful buildings and architecture. The Grade 1 listed City Hall with its Italianate clock tower and the gothic styled Wool Exchange provide two fine examples.
Visitors can discover more about Bradford's rich past by taking one of a series of self guided walks. Free local guides include revealing insights into the historic Wool Merchants Quarter of Little Germany and city centre public art.
New age technology is put in the spotlight at the award-winning National Museum of Photography, Film and Television with five floors of interactive displays and three cinemas including the eye popping 3D IMAX. Across the city, the Colour Museum reveals the history, development and technology of colour.
On the outskirts of the city, there is lots more for visitors to see. Cartwright Hall Art Gallery includes an international collection of South Asian Art, whilst the popular Bradford Industrial Museum recreates life in Bradford at the turn of the 19th century.
