The Borough of Newcastle under Lyme is ideally situated in the heart of England, and the perfect place for a refreshing break. Easily accessible by road and rail, the town lies in pretty rolling countryside between Manchester and Birmingham, and within easy reach of the Peak District, the Pottery towns and the Welsh Border country.
It combines rural charm with a tradition of industry that changed the world. Newcastle under Lyme is an historic market town with a pleasant, floral, traffic-free centre. Small specialist shops are mixed with larger national stores and the colourful, centuries-old open market is full of characters and bargains. There are lots of cafes, bars, restaurants and pubs, two beautiful town gardens to relax in, and a Museum and Art Gallery set in 8 acres of parkland.
Newcastle buzzes at night too, with its night clubs, brand new cinema complex, and the New Victoria Theatre. The surrounding countryside is pretty, with lots of picturesque villages, country pubs and woodland walks. Keele University is just 3 miles away, and the top tourist venue Alton Towers is 15 miles. Population 75,000
