Kilmore is a small township in the parish of Sleat on the Sleat Peninsula, the Isle of Skye in the Western Isles of Scotland; it is situated between the townships of Kilbeg and Ferindonald close to the village of Armadale. The name Kilmore comes from the gaelic ‘A’Chill Mhor meaning the ‘Big Church’ and a reef on the shore known as St Columba’s Rock is believed to be where St Columba landed on the shore in 585AD. Early records show a church was there in the 13th century, ruins of the second church stand in the churchyard and date back to 1681 and the present church dates to 1876. The Sleat War Memorial is to the north of the church and commemorates those who were lost in both WW1 and WW2 The picturesque Sleat Peninsular is known as the ‘Garden of Skye’ with pictureque landscapes and abundance of wildlife. Tranquil Kilmore is a popular tourist destination with holiday accommodation, shops and amenities, its scenic location is ideal for touring the many attractions on Skye and the Western Isles. Nearby attractions include the Armadale Castle Gardens with nature-trails, walks, the ruins of Armadale Castle and the Museum of the Isles in the grounds. The SeaFari Adventures boat tours leave from Armadale pier to see the local wildlife. Other attractions include fishing, golfing and driving tours of the area.
