Arnside is located in the North West of England in an area of true natural beauty, in fact it is in an area designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is one of the largest villages in Cumbria (Population 2,300) and it lies close to the border with Lancashire. As with many coastal locations, Arnside overlooks the River Kent, there was a small fishing industry and in those days steamers, small coasters and yachts used to use the landing stage. As time passed the estuary silted up and this resulted in Arnside losing this industry. The pier and port areas remain to this day offering stunning views across Morecambe Bay and this is what attracts visitors to the area throughout the year. But it is not simply these sea views that attract the visitors, indeed a short walk along the sands and you will see the railway viaduct stretching out over the River Kent. The National Trust manage the land at Arnside Knott and there are paths to enjoy alongside Eaves Wood and Redhill Wood which can offer tantalising views of the Lancashire coast. There is plenty for the visitor to enjoy in this picturesque location with a range of small friendly shops and good local amenities. If you’re thinking of a visit then its Junction 36 off the M6 which is less than ten miles away or you could take the train to Arnside Railway Station.
