South Zeal is a picturesque Devonshire village set on the northern edge of Dartmoor National Park, surrounded by stunning countryside. It was granted a Market Charter in the 13th Century, and the impressive granite cross stands as an everlasting reminder of the Medieval Market. Walkers are bewitched by the sheer beauty of the dramatic Moorland scenery, where many ancient Stone Circles like the Nine Maidens, Grey Wethers, and Fernworthy date back to the Bonze Age. For an interesting story waiting to be shared take a visit to the Museum of Dartmoor Life, which unveils intriguing exhibits and the history of people long since gone is explained, for history of a different kind Okehampton Castle sits high above a rushing river and conjures thoughts of knights and Damsels, Artists reach for another brush as they try to capture the magic. For a glimpse of Mother Nature's Magic there are woodland walks or the sparkling River Okement to enjoy. Animal lovers may be tempted with the Miniature Pony and Animal Farm where ponies, pygmy goats and Shire Horses share twenty acres of delightful parkland. Or perhaps Finch Foundry will grant any wish of seeing the last water powered forge in England with entertaining demonstrations and a terrific collection of tools on show.
