Loughborough is a busy town in Leicestershire, with a Market held twice a week since the 13th Century. The town is the centre for bell making, and a tour around the Bell Foundry Museum, where exhibits tell the story, see the foundry that cast the bell hanging in St Paul’s Cathedral in London. The attractive Grand Union Canal courses through the town, and whether you walk the tow paths or sail on one of the Narrow Boats keeping company with swans and ducks it‘s idyllic, time it right and the annual Loughborough Festival will be on. If the thrill of the great outdoors beckons how about Beacon Hill Country Park, which is the second highest point in Leicestershire and is blessed with stunning views of Charnwood Forest, add ponds with frogs, and a Bronze Age Hill Fort dating back 3,000 years and whether you walk, cycle or go on horse back it’s lovely.
