Lincoln is an historic Cathedral city in the County of Lincolnshire, home to 84,000 people. The city dates back to the Iron Age although many historic wonders grace the streets, the most impressive is the fabulous Cathedral, that dominates the skyline, this Medieval masterpiece with it's Gothic Spires will steal your breath in an instant. The interior reverses time with the architectural prowess that is boldly on display. With arches, and stunning stained glass windows a visit will transport you back centuries. Opposite the Cathedral is Lincoln Castle, that was built by William the Conqueror only two years after that famous battle. The Castle has also been used as a Prison and a Court, and one of the surviving copies of the original Magna Carta can be seen here. The Medieval Centre is around here, and many building survive from the 14th and 15th Century. Wander through cobbled streets to Brayford Pool, along the waterfront and climb aboard a boat for a tranquil journey around the city, along the River Witham, and Fossdyke Roman Canal. Or why not catch a Curtain Call at the Theatre Royal which is housed in a lovely Victorian building, performances range from Drama, Musicals and Comedy. A visit to the Guildhall in the High Street unravels many delights, set in the old Debtors Prison and houses many treasures one of which is the impressive sword that belonged to Richard 11, or perhaps the scintillating exhibits on show at 'The Collection' is more for you, covering stunning items from the Iron Age, Saxon, Roman and Medieval times, next door the impressive Usher Art Gallery proudly displays beautiful paintings by Stubbs, Turner and Lowry. Or how about the historical treasures on offer of the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment and Lincoln Yeomanry, housed in an old Barracks has thought provoking exhibits. For lovers of the great outdoors Hartsholme Country Park has enchanting Victorian landscaping, woodlands, Nature Trails and a Reservoir that reflects the ever changing sky...Lincoln will entice her visitors to stay longer than they should.
