Penge is the perfect spot for visitors wishing to experience the excitement of the capital with a peaceful base to escape to at the end of the day. This pretty south-east suburb is a 15-minute train ride from central London, and it's ideally placed for trips to the ancient castles, idyllic villages and rolling landscapes of Kent. Guests are also close to the major shopping opportunities of Bromley, Croydon and Greenwich, whose historic riverside buildings are among London's finest tourist attractions. Penge, however, has its own sights. It has preserved many of its Victorian almshouses, now privately occupied, with the oldest, the dramatic Royal Watermen's Almshouses, dating back to the 1840s. Penge can also boast the oldest working police station in London, built in 1872.
