A bustling, cosmopolitan area of north London, Finsbury Park is situated just where three boroughs - Islington, Haringey and Hackney - collide. It's within easy reach of the West End and it enjoys excellent bus, tube and rail links to all of London via a network operating from the recently refurbished Finsbury Park Station. The jewel in the crown here is, of course, the park itself, a Grade II-listed space which has benefited from a £5 million improvement programme. It consequently received a green flag award in 2007. Opened in 1869, it traditionally functions as a "people's park", most famously for the rock concerts and other open-air events it hosts in summertime. Other attractions in the 112-acre park include landscaped gardens and flowerbeds, a boating lake, a play area with a water feature, a café and a wide range of sporting facilities - a skate park, basketball and tennis courts, football and American sports pitches, and an athletics stadium. Not far away is Arsenal FC's Emirates Stadium. Elsewhere in the area, Rowan's tenpin bowling alley, opposite the station, is popular, while residents prize the unmistakeable outlines of two iconic buildings: the mosque and the former Rainbow Theatre, now an evangelical church.
