Renowned for its friendliness, Ballymoney is a small, historic market town in northern Antrim, located on the main road between Coleraine and Ballymena. Most of the town's ancient buildings are included within a conservation area. The oldest is a church tower constructed in 1637. The town clock tower and Masonic hall date back to 1775, and the First Presbyterian Church and St Patrick's Parish were built in the same period. Ballymoney hosts the oldest annual drama festival in Ireland, and another enduring tradition is angling, with the surrounding countryside offering excellent waters for game and coarse fishing. Many sports are enjoyed around these parts, from golf, canoeing and shooting to indoor activities at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre, named after the motorbike champion. The Joey Dunlop Memorial Garden also commemorates this son of Ballymoney. Important sporting events are held at the Riada Stadium. Meanwhile, great family outings are guaranteed at the Finvoy Fun Farm and the Leslie Hill Open Farm, which includes a museum, and Movanagher Fish Farm gives tours by appointment. Other noteworthy sights are Ballymoney Museum, the 17th Century estate and gardens of Benvarden, and Drumahaglis Marina with its woodland and waterside nature trails (and award-winning caravan park).
