Aberporth is located 6 miles North-east of Cardigan on the B4333. Originally a fishing and farming community, this was a centre of the herring industry as the sheltered waters of Cardigan Bay provided ideal spawning grounds. Today, Aberporth is a relatively undiscovered paradise for water sports enthusiasts - safe bathing, sailing, canoeing and surfing can all be enjoyed here. Adventure boat trips are available in Summer but if staying ashore, children will like the beach or dabbling in the exposed rock pools. You might choose to brave the cliff walks and while away the time looking out for seals and bottlenose dolphins ˆ there have even been rare sightings of turtles. Good accommodations ranging from hotels to campsites are all available locally. If self-catering, you might choose Penffynon - a cluster of properties where you can even stay in a former sea-captains house - a perfect place to fantasise about your own choice of yacht. The historic town of Cardigan is only a half-hour drive from Aberporth and beyond Cardigan, to the south, are the Preseli mountains and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, both beloved by walkers. Inland, lies the Teifi Valley - offering marvellous angling - and Cenarth's beautiful waterfalls.
