Born 1730 . Died 1774 - Irish playwright, novelist and poet


An irish playwright, novelist and poet, his first publication was An Enquiry into the Present State of Polite Learning in Europe (1759). He founded and edited a weekly , The Bee (1759), also writing for other magazines. The Vicar of Wakefield (1766) established him as a novelist, The Deserted Village (1770) as a poet, and She Stoops to Conquer (1773) as a playwright.
