Cardross is a historic village by the River Clyde in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, situated two miles east of Helensburgh.
Cardross is well-known as the village where Robert I died in 1329.
Historically interesting features include Cardross Castle standing at the mouth of the River Leven three miles east of the village and the Chapel of Saint Mahew which dates from the 14th century which was restored in 1955.
Cardross is surrounded by rivers, lochs, mountains, forests and beautiful scenery, there are hotels, inns, holiday parks, self-catering accommodation and plenty of places to eat in the area. The village has shops and amenities, a village hall and a railway station operating on the Drumgelloch to Helensburgh line. There is a bowling club, tennis courts and the Cardross Golf Course which opened in 1895 with spectacular views over the River Clyde.
Attractions include Geilston Gardens; the National Trust gardens are set within the grounds of the 15th century Geilston House with greenhouses containing shrubs, fruit and vegetables.
The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park are nearby with the most southerly Munro, Ben Lomond, standing 973m high on the eastern shore. The Loch is a centre for many water-sports, boat charters, boat cruises, walking, fishing and nature-watching.
