Sandbanks Peninsula is perhaps the most memorable feature of Poole Harbour. Joined to the mainland by an isthmian road, it divides the harbour from the English Chanel creating a dramatic narrow harbour entrance at its head. In recent years Sandbanks has become famed for its expensive real estate and fancy restaurants, but in reality Sandbanks is a tranquil yet stylish resort renowned for its golden sands, safe swimming conditions and superb views. Situated at the heart of Dorset’s main attractions, the mile-round peninsula has a wonderful blue flag sandy beach which stretches down the coast to Bournemouth and beyond, past the many chines, cafes and beach huts. A chain ferry links Sandbanks to West Dorset whilst regular boat services take passengers to near by Brownsea Island, the Wareham River and Poole Quay. The peninsula also offers fantastic fishing and water sports facilities and is renowned for its excellent windsurfing and kite surfing conditions. It is also home to the Royal Motor Yacht Club, a private members club which offers berthing facilities and hospitality to all affiliates of Royal Yacht Clubs.
