I lived in Blandford Forum from1962 until967while my husband was stationed there with the British army I loved it I was born in a small village up north and Blandford always felt like home our favourite pub was the half moon and I can remember my husband being over the moon when he got his own oewter tankard there I would return tomorrow if circumstances allowed.

I have visited Blandford Forum three times since
April 2003. It fasinates me peoples reactions
to you when they know your not from their neck of the woods. People from Blandford seem very 'evasive' with a hidden nerousness about them that's very deep.
This echo's in the 'feel' of the place when walking down the street, and Blandford seems to maintain its 'secret' nature about it. Sadly people seem 'protective' of themselves. Attempts to make you feel welcome in their hotels is

We like the town and the markets in particular, but have given up on Bridport bacause of the apalling parking situation. We are 100 miles away & have twice driven there only to find every car park choc-a-bloc and had to abort the visit in consequence. This is in spite of very early starts from home too. A great shame !

Broadwindsor is a very quiet little village. It has an excellent craft centre, gift shop and restaurant which must have helped to put it on the map so to speak. It's other main attraction is the village pub called The White Lion. This is a very friendly pub with a nice landlord, who goes out of his way to make you feel welcome. We really enjoyed our stay in this little village, and mainly because we knew we were going to see his friendly face in the evenings. We would love to come back some time for another visit. The chocolate lumpy bumpy desert is divine.

Charmouth Monday market is a lovely morning out. THIS year though they have changed the layout and parking and it is most certainly not an improvement. All the cars on one side and the traders obviously blocking access with their tents. Go back to previous years layout please.

Rachel and I stayed at Rose Cottage for 2 nights last year.
We can honestly say that it was the best place we have ever stayed at. It was clean and tidy it had a welcoming feel about it and had much character on the inside.
Of course our hosts Sue and Mick were wonderful and they were extremely friendly and would always have a chat!

CorfeCastle, Dorset

Corfe Castle was historically the location of Edward the Martyr's death [murdered by his stepmother, to allow her son, Aethelred, to come to the throne] in the Anglo-Saxon period. The Castle would no doubt have been a wooden structure in those far off days.but the ruins today are of Norman masonry.

Milborne port is a unique and sivalised village, it has a great atmosphere and when i stayed they the whole community was very welcoming. I really enjoyed my stay there in the gainsbrough pub, it was very peacefull and the food was abouslty divine, the sourounding fields and footpaths that you can walk around are quite simple amazing and so beautiful. I really enjoyed my stay there and i would highly recomand going to that wonderful village.

I was born in a house called 'Ivy Banks' on Portland's Top Hill 1943. Although I now live in Lincolnshire I still write poetry of Portland and Dorset. Below is one of my poems of Portland.
A Time Before
The Island appeared from the parting mist
The cliffs rise from rocky broken bones
Surging tides of centuries laid waste
And cleansed this marbled artery of stone
On the cliff a gallery of cradled nests of lamps
White light for the wreckers moth
Beneath the baleful eye
Rests the fishermen's windswept homes
Windows glow with warmth
Black ranges chuckle glowing red
Driftwood, kindling piled against the shed
Gallows, timbers thick as stilted trees
Hunch over clinkered stalwart fishing boats
Waiting to be lowered by block and tackle
Into the Islands gale flung seas
With the wind comes the cracked buoys bell
Warning of four racing tides
The full flood sweeps in across the rocks
Dark seaweed with that salty ozone smell
Dragged from below the sweating cliffs
Spume filled waves leave foam
As thick as snow upon the windswept roofs
Flotsam, limbs of broken trees
Washed up and flung across a shingled beach
Lay as broken skeletons, kindling
For the men who fish and brave these seas
As the winds abate, seas ebbing
Leaving mountains bones of broken stones
Shingle stretching towards the land
An isthmus created by the storms applause
Stretching out towards the distant shores.

We had a superb holiday in these beautiful cottages. They were tastefully furnished, clean and very homely. The owners were firendly and gave us a very warm welcome. The weather was fantastic and the proximity of the beach made the location ideal. Sipping a glass of wine in the lovely back garden on a warm evening was ideal. We will definately be going back.

The Foresters at Donhead is an excellent pub with really nice and original food. The beer is well-kept and the wine list is good and without too much of a mark-up.
BUT:
THERE IS NO RAILWAY STATION IN SHAFTESBURY!! In the review of the Foresters it states that the nearest station is Shaftesbury.

Southbourne is beautiful! Ideally located between the cosmopolitan town of Bournemouth and historical Christchurch with it's Priory and Quay. Southbourne itself is ideal for a quiet family or couples holiday. If you're looking for relaxation with option of loads to do around you then it's the place to go. The cliff lift or zig zag path leads down to 9 miles of sandy beaches from Hengisbury Head Nature Reserve to Poole Harbour. On the cliff itself you will find a childrens play area, crazy golf and putting. You won't find any amusement arcades here.
Go inland a little and you'll be in the New Forest. It's the perfect location for a relaxing holiday.

We went to Dorset Heavy Horse Centre on Sunday 7/5/06. WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY.Could not get over how well run the centre is and the fact so much to do for kids and adults. The animals seemed so relaxed and happy. The new owner certainly had time to talk and answer any questions, he was very experienced. Well done keep it up, a wonderful day out.

I love West stafford and the surrounding areas, I have lived there for 30 years and have recently visited the Wise Man pub for the first time since it burned down , Dont go there I went there for a family meal thinking it was the same it used to be ..Friendly welcoming staff and a relaxed atmosphere in a tranquill surrounding No its not I was supprised that the staff were aloud to engage the paying customer with sarcastics remarks after waiting for condiments for the meal they served.I felt so disengaged from the premises that I promptly left

THE GREYHOUND INN.
Having used this pub for many years, I and other regular users are delighted with the new owners and the massive effort put in since thier arrival to bring the pub and restaurent back up to the level of previous years.
My familly and I have only ever had good friendly service and good food. Sometimes the pub can be very busy, and as all food is cooked fresh, there may be a short delay. If you want fast food go to a Burger bar!
I do not recognise the other negative comments posted as genuine reviews. One at least has a familier ring of occasional patrons who continually complain from the minute they walk in, including not getting freebies, not getting the right table, and about other clientelle being 'too common'! Enjoy the Worlds End and good luck to them. I suggest other visitors use and enjoy this pub.

My Sister and her family booked Christmas lunch 2008 at The Greyhound. They had been there last year and were pleased with the service and food. This year was not a good experience for them. They were requested to arrive at 12:00 noon, which they did. First course was served at 12:45 and they eventually left at 16:15 not having completed the so called Cheese Board and coffee.
My sister did call back and lodged a complaint about the length of service and lack of service from the staff, who appeared to be under pressure beacause there were insufficient staff present. My sister talked with a lady at the Greyhound and could not get a satisfacory answer to most of her comments. She will not be using this Pub again. If she had seen the comments from one of your previous independant reportees she may have reconsidered her choice of Chrstmas dinner venue. Future potential users of the Greyhound should use this website before making a final decision.

Have been here regularly with friend and thoroughly enjoyed the carvery but sadly over the past month the standard has gone through the floor. Cut backs have meant half the meat on the plate, but very worrying is the recycled veg that are brought in and mixed with the fresh food. Have now found recycled roast potatoes which are like bullets and sure some of the yorkshires are not fresh. No lemon in the water anymore. Even the wafer in the icecream has been halved over the last month and now the ice cream will not be included in the cost of the meal, but an additional £3. However what really made me feel ill was the dirty tea towels used by the head chef to wipe his forehead, nose etc then lifting hot plates with it (believe me it was filthy and looked like a floor cloth) the other chef left his dirty cloth thrown over the bannister (used by upstairs diners) and he sharpened his carving knife with the steel after he had wiped the knife on the filthy cloth. I know the new owners
I said to my friends when we were last there that someone will come down with food poisening soon
Such a shame it was always a great carvery and when the new people arrived and changed the carpets/decor etc we all thought it would get better and better but that was very short lived. Seems its not making the owner enough ££££ but these tricks will kill it stone dead.
Best to vote with your feet and go elsewhere like the Worlds End .........
