A lovely riverside village with glamorous connections to the British film industry, Shepperton is located to the west of Greater London, just across the border with Surrey. One of the most picturesque parts of Shepperton is found around the lock, where graceful trees tower over the water and boats. The visitor may enjoy rural rambles along the banks of the Thames or take a boat trip from the marina to Weybridge, Hampton Court or Staines. Charming, too, is Church Square, a conservation area on the site of the original village, where some of the buildings in part date back to the 1600s. The 400-year-old Anchor Hotel, overlooking the square, is popularly believed to have been a haunt of notorious highwayman Dick Turpin. Shepperton is home to the world-famous Shepperton Studios, set in the grounds of Littleton Park House, a 17th Century manor. The studios began making films in 1931, and have since produced many box office hits. Situated eight miles from Heathrow, Shepperton is an ideal destination for travellers. The mainline railway station provides speedy transport into London, and drivers are close to the M3, M4 and M25. Nearby attractions include Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures and Windsor Castle.
