Ellesmere Port

Ellesmere port is a major port on the Mersey and when travelling in the area you notice the huge chimneys for miles but cannot get near them. To get close for a view of the river and this huge port, take the M53 motorway, leave at junction 8 or 9 and follow the signs for the Boat Museum. You can park in the free car park at the museum and then walk along the river. As you turn the bend, look back and you will get a view of the Manchester Ship canal with the chimneys and docks of Ellesmere Port in the background - Denise

Liverpool

The best value for all day parking in Liverpool is at the King Dock where you can park all day for £3.50 but only after 9.30am. Great for visiting the docks, Liver Building, pierhead etc but a reasonable walk into the city centre. Even so, it is easy to find, just follow the main docks road and follow the signs for Albert Dock. Past that there is a sign for the King Dock. - Denise

King John granted a Royal Charter to Liverpool in 1207, creating a city now known world-wide as the birthplace of The Beatles and the home of Liverpool and Everton Football Clubs (the latter being the older of the two).
Liverpool was once the "Second City of Empire", eclipsing even London for commerce at times. The miles of docks bore witness to cargoes from around the globe and the mass migration of peoples from all over Europe to the New World.
Today, Liverpool is set to become one of the first World Wide Web cities, with links to the Internet on every street corner around the city centre. The city is planning to establish free computer terminals in public places such as streets, libraries, banks and car parks.
In the United Kingdom, Liverpool has a reputation second to none as a unique place to visit and enjoy - Dazza

Southport

If you are interested in watching birds rather than riding roller-coasters during a stay at Southport, make sure you pay a visit to Marshside. Follow the promenade out of Southport and keep on the beach road – the A565. A couple of miles down you will see an RSPB parking area which is free to members, others pay about £2. From the car park you can see across the sands and watch the dippers feeding. You can walk around the headland on marsh ground and see other sea birds. Cross the road from the car park and follow the signs to the RSPB hide – from there you can view the birds on the inland marshes which can include avocets, lapwings, geese, swans, godwit, redshank, swallows etc depending on time of year. - Denise

Wirral

Hidden away amongst small Cheshire villages close to the Dee estuary is Ness Gardens. These fantastic botanical gardens are part of the Liverpool University Research Centre. They lie between the villages of Burton and Neston a few miles off the A540 Chester to West Kirby road. They are open all year and charge just £5 for entry but the size of the gardens and the number of plants growing there is incredible. Well worth a visit. - Denise
