After your busy day exploring the area you will need to relax and unwind – where better than the Royal Oak, a traditional country inn set in the heart of Braithwaite.

The Royal Oak has been in Braithwaite far longer than its current owners, who took over a very old and tired pub in 1991. Since then the pub has undergone two major refurbishments, the last creating 10 en-suite bedrooms to become a welcoming country inn with log fires in winter, oak beams and very friendly staff. Food at the Oak is in keeping with the style and demand of its customers. Food at the Oak is in keeping with the style and demand of its customers – hearty portions of traditional pub food served in either the bar area or the non smoking restaurant. Full English breakfast is served every morning to both residents and non residents and packed lunches can be provided for those heading out onto the fells.

The Royal Oak thrives on being a busy pub in a small village, as well as the extensive bar menu it is also home to a host of real ales all brewed by local brewer Jennings Brothers. It is said that it’s the extra things that count and at the Oak managers Joe, Caroline and all their team will go out of their way to provide these. The small things such as drying facilities for wet clothes, special dietary food or the allowance of dogs in some rooms may not be paramount for everyone but they are for others. Indeed if there is anything that you require, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you at the Oak
