Mottistone is 7 miles west of Newport between Brighstone and Brook on the
B3399.
A magical and picturesque garden set alongside an Elizabethan manor house
(tenanted) with colourful borders, gentle grassy terraces and views to the
sea. Mottistone is the National Trust‚s most southerly dry garden and has
been selected to trial plants from the Mediterranean zone to monitor the
effects of climate change.
Families can explore the garden with a discovery pack, free to borrow for
the duration of your visit, or find the hidden flowerpot people. The Shack,
situated in the tea garden is an unusual example of Modern Movement design
and was the country retreat of architects Seely & Paget.
There is also a small organic kitchen garden, plant sales area and shop plus
walks across the adjoining Mottistone estate - something for everyone.
Manor House open one day only: Monday 25th May 2009 2pm - 5pm (additional charges apply). Guided tours for National Trust members only from 10am - 12 noon by timed ticket available from the visitor reception area on the day (not available in advance).
