This was the worst 4* accommodation i have ever stayed in, Blencathra cottage, views fantastic, cottage dated , smelly, mould in twin en-suite, as well as strong smell of urine that drifted into twin bedroom at night, extractor in en-suite never worked and there was npo window.
No washing machine , tumble dryer, hoover or dishwasher, small fridge and tiny freezer .
I would not recommend to anybody i liked!!!!

Booked into one of the cottages for the week, Blencathra self catering.
The standard of decor was shabby,very dated, with a distinct student digs vibe. There were no books, dvds, games or any other little extras to amuse you on the rainy days. There was a tiny fridge with an even tinier freezer compartment, not what you want to see when you take pre-bought food to your hol accomodation. There was no way to vaccuum/clean the flat just a dustpan and brush and the flat wasn't cleaned by the owners all week. No welcome pack, not even for tea or coffee.
Views nice from upper room, but not good on the whole.

As regular visitors to the Caravan Club site which is a mile or so down the road from the Troutbeck Inn we have eaten at this venue many, many times over a period of 10 years or so.
Unfortunately our most recent visit is likely to be our last as the menu has moved "up market" leading to restricted choice, reduced portion size and significantly increased price.
We visited on a mid-season Friday evening at 7:30pm and we were the only diners.
I have no complaint about the food - it was beatifully cooked and attentively served, but the Inn has always been a pie/sausage/chicken/fish and chips and this is what majority of the fellwalking/caravanning local customers are looking for.
If I wanted to pay £25-30 per head for nouvelle cuisine, I'd be looking for a more intimate restaurant in Keswick, Penrith or Carlisle - not a wayside pub in the sticks.

The hospitality was to match, dreadful. Customer care course needed.Faulty Towers springs to mind. The food was good. The area outstanding.

You really have to see this place to appreciate it's pure beauty.
We arrived just past 11pm due to my patner entering the wrong post code into the sat nav. No problems what so ever. They had the door open waiting for us as we pulled in to the car park.
It was dark when we arrived so when morning came the views were spectacular.
Our room was a double and it was very large, airy and the bed was so comfy I didn't want to get up.
Full English breakfast in the morning included in the price.
Dogs are allowed with prior permission and We will be visiting again with our dog in the summer.
10 out of 10 for hospitality, clenliness, I really cannot fault Troutbeck Inn.
Well worth a visit!

Very disappointing. Booked family room which was clean, if rather plain. Double bed was very uncomfortable & squeaked evary time we moved! Consequenely had a terrible night's sleep. Mentioned it to the owner the following morning & asked if there was an alternative room we could move into. There was not.
I said we would, regrettably, have to check out & she tried to charge me for the second night! I said that I didn't see why I should have to pay for an extra night (@ £95!) due to the bed being so uncomfortable. She eventually relented after having a little strop - ripped the bill up & threw it away.
I think they need to learn a little bit about customer service!

A place to stop on my way across the A66. Really easy to find, with parking right in front of the pub.
Nice friendly service, no grumble about being asked for a receipt unlike a lot of pubs, and they were very quick cooking and bringing my food, which was excellent - the ubiquitous Cumberland sausage baguette. Had expected 'salad' to mean the usual three leaves and half a tomato, but it was a proper serving. Good value at less than £8 for the food and a half pint of ginger ale.
Pity I was driving as the selection of beers was very tempting - Skipton Brewery and Black Sheep, makes a change from Jennings.
All in all a good place, would think it is even better when filled with refuelling walkers of an evening - I was there on a quiet Thursday lunchtime. And a bigger crowd would hide the 1970s brown patterned carpet and the walls that are crying out for more pictures
