Born 1872. Died 1956 - English writer and caricaturist.


He was educated at the Oratory school, Birmingham and then Oxford University, before doing his military service in the French army. He became a naturalized British subject in 1902 and a Liberal MP (1906-10). He is best remembered for his nonsensical verse for children such as The Bad Child’s Book of Beasts (1896) and Cautionary Tales (1907). He also wrote travel books, religious books and historical studies.
