On our way to Bath from Poole, thought we would stop at the Talbot for a delicious lunch .as we have eaten there before. When we arrived the place had changed it's name to The White? Garlic. We were extremely disappointed in the decor, lack of ambience , food and the very expensive lunch time menu. Would not recommend it to anyone. The new owner is trading on the good name of The Talbot as they haven't got a web page of their own yet! I'm sure most people will be very disappointed including the locals who have lost their bar.

My daughter and myself stayed here as we had a funeral to go to the next day.Nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was excellent staff friendly and helpful. The next day my 3 sons and partners were coming down for the funeral but got to Dorset very early.we asked if they could have breakfast even though they did not have a room, they didnt hessitate and set a table for 8.They also allowed them to change in our room.a ironing board and iron was produced minutes after asking for one.The buffet for the funeral was also done here and that was fantastic food too.i cant fault this hotel on Anythig .considering it was a sad occasion our stay was most enjoyable

My husband and I had a most enjoyable stay recently. Our room (Bulbarrow, named after a local hill as all the rooms are) was very nicely decorated in a contemporary country style with all mods cons and a couple of comfortable chairs with a view from the window. Although the room was at the front and The Talbot is on the main road the traffic noise was not a problem as it is a surprisingly quiet road. Nice modern bathroom with a good shower. Breakfast was cooked to order and excellent as was the diner in the bar in the evening with a good value supper menu. Service was very good. The village itself is a gem and worth a walk around as well as being close to many other beautiful Dorset towns and villages. In all, a good choice for a value for money short break in a lovely part of the country.
