Having visited Raffles (Tiffins) countless times in the past, we were looking forward to a relaxing evening with delicious food celebrating an 18th birthday, the reality was very different. Appalling service, slow, rude, unhelpful staff mixed with horrendous cold food which arrived at the table at different times. When we complained about the food to the manager who also owns the restaurant, he simply turned around and rudely stated “well, what do you want me to do about it?” Raffles in the past had every opportunity to be an amazing restaurant, offering diners delicious food, for reasonable prices, now it is expensive, offering extremely poor service, expensive food which fails to deliver, and shockingly bad management, my advice to anyone contemplating visiting this restaurant would be to avoid it at all costs, save your money, don’t waste it here.

We visited Raffles (aka Tiffins) for a birthday meal and were sorely disappointed. The place was clean (maybe they've tidied up a bit since our previous reviewers were there!) and the waitresses pleasant but the food was mediocre at best. It was presented well, but sadly the taste didn't live up to it's fine dining aspirations (or prices!). A case of far too much on the menu, with nothing (we tried 4 starters and 4 mains between us) standing out as being anything other than ok. We won't be back.

I am a regular to Tiffins and wanted to put straight some of the previous comments. It is an excellent restaurant with great cooked, fresh food and attentative staff. Don't believe everything you read, go try it for yourselves and you will not be dissapointed. There is an excellent menu and fantastic choice of wonderful wines. I have taken family and friends there in the past and will continue to do so in the future. Well done Brian & Pauline (owners).

Waited 45 minutes for a cold starter. The food only loosely resembles what it states on the menu but tasted good. The restaurant is filthy, the menus look like they've been used to clean the kitchen, the staff are rude and dismissive - and don't bother complaining to the manager/owner ... you can see where they get it from. Wouldn't eat in here again if I was starving.

This was a special occasion to celebrate a friend's 75th birthday at a restaurant of her choice. We all live within a 10 mile radius of Cranbrook. At lunchtime, Tiffins was empty, apart from our group,freezing cold and echoed every sound.The service was so bad that, after the wine was ordered and served (very quickly!) a member of our party had to go in search of someone to take our order. There were several menus and so many choices, we all feared the worst. The first course, when it eventually arrived, was soup - which was at least warm-ish if taste-less; second course of calves liver and bacon took a l-o-n-g time to arrive. Imagine two overcooked wafer thin slivers of calves liver balanced on a bucket-shaped "sandcastle" of lumpy, semi-cooked potato (no butter or cream, just lots of salt and lumps of raw spud). Alongside this nasty tower, two rashers of very very salt bacon, smothered with red onion gravy which tasted mostly of -salt. Everyone's blood pressure must have shot up by several points! 'Presentation' was two stems of chives balanced on the liver. The dish was virtually inedible which was perhaps not surprising as the "chef" dashed into the restaurant some time after we had placed our order. One member of our group chose pudding instead of a starter - the waitress couldn't identify the pudding in the chiller; the diner pronounced it inedible. Bearing in mind that our party included a professional caterer and an NVQ Catering Assessor and Verifier, as well as a Management Consultant, PR and "mystery shopper" for London restaurants as well as ladies who regularly eat out, the opinions were well informed and, at best, very unfavourable. To round off a thoroughly unpleasant experience, the waitress (understood to be the owner's wife)was unable to add up the bill correctly, even with the help of the till. 6 set course menus at £12.00 each plus a bottle of wine at £16.00 is hardly complicated and yet it took no less than 5 attempts to work out the total and then only with the assistance of a member of our party! Needless to say, we didn't leave a tip and we won't be going back. A few months after our disastrous experience, it was rumoured that Tiffins had been sold. Unfortunately it was just a rumour and the same ghastly management continues to dish out duff food. Incidentally, our letter pointing out the inadequacies of virtually every aspect of our lunch at Tiffins was ignored - no respense at all! Do yourselves a favour - DO NOT EAT HERE!!!! And if you have no alternative, check the total of your bill!

Today for lunch I had the most delicious homemade pate, chutney and red onion marmalade. I often pop into Tiffins for a bite to eat and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere at this restaurant and therefore find the feedback left my 'Louise and husband' utter nonsense. Justin is infact the Head Chef and not the owner and the staff are alway polite and friendly. I have never seen the restaurant to be anything other than clean and tidy, and on one unannounced visit to the kitchen also found this to be cleaned to a high standard. I think 'Louise' needs to get out more as I visit restaurants on a regular basis and can assure her that here are ones a thousand times worse out there. I say well done to Brian (the owner) and Justin (the head chef)and keep up the good work... this is a must place to eat and drink so get in your cars and pay a visit.

We are regular visitors of Tiffins for both meals and drinks. We find the remarks of Louise quite astounding. Every time we visit and decide to stay for a meal we have never been disappointed. The food has been consistantly good and we have always been received by a warm welcome by the owner Brian and the staff. Would recommend it and if in Cranbrook it's a must visit.

What an outstanding restaurant ~ the service was second to none. We strongly recommend the Tiffin Burger their own recipe prepared by a local butcher. Great value for money.

On entering the Restaurant the Head Waiter and owner Justin was very accommodating to give us a table which for a Saturday night at 8pm any good Restaurant should be booked up at this point my husband and I found quite astonishing we where give a choice of eating in the noisey dining area or the quiet upstairs secluded area, to this we decided that what he meant was sit alone in the upstairs dining area, so we sat in the lower dining area, we where given the menu, on recieving the menu we found the outer plastic sleeve of the menu had been burnt , at this point we where slighty alarmed at what we had been given. We looked through the menu and found comfort in some light hearted jokes in the menu, about the only thing in the restaurant that made us smile.We also noted the owner had achieved a GOLD STAR AWARD from environmental health...Mmmm this we had yet to discover had the enviromental health seen the burnt menus!!!We ordered Tiffins platter for two and a half rack of ribs and a half shoulder of lamb. As we where enjoying each others company we had not had time to look at the table until the platter arrived for starters to which we where astonished at what was put before us ,my husband leaned across the table and said our 10 year old could cook better than this and take more effort in the display on the plate, has the chef thrown the food on the plate!!. This was the point where we realised the table we sat at was flithy yes I said filthy in what way? The glasses where stuck to the table with who knows how many days of split drinks, the table had been reset at least 3 times on this swimming pool and marks stuck on the table of at least three previous settings of paper seviettes they where green yellow and red , we couldnt remeber who's flag those colours where from !! Now we where appalled at the meal and the table, and upset that we had spent our Saturday evening here. On deciding that we should point out to the head waiter who was also the owner the dissatifaction that we where experiencing in his restaurant he dismissivly could not see our upset only reiterated that the tables had been cleaned and set on wet tables , after trying to explain to Justin(owner) that this was unacceptable for any restaurant he offered to give us the two drinks and starters for free, why would any good restaurnat offer free food ??? Answer because he new it was unsatisfactory for any customer .. The main point here is did enviromental health sit at the STICKY DIRTY TABLE ??? Oh and the bill was £23.40 for two drinks and one shared starters !!
