Best rates for a Local Hotel

Lovely building in superb setting completely wasted by poor management and hopeless service in the restaurant. My friend booked a twin room for us, this was clearly stated on the booking, upon arrival, we were informed that only double room was available and instead of being offered a separate room, the best that they were prepared to offer was a small folding camp bed which collapsed when I sat on it. We could have another double room for over eighty pounds for the night, very bloody generous considering we had booked a twin room. No tea / coffee making facilities in the room and rusty shower rail in the bathroom. On to the restaurant. No record of our evening meal booking, again clearly confirmed on the reservation. In the restaurant we waited over 40 minutes for a starter, (fish cakes), to be served. The main course was a little quicker but then the desert was another 30 plus minute wait, after being informed on two separate occasions that selections ordered from the menu were not available ten to fifteen minutes after having our orders taken. Drink ordered failed to arrive. All told a simple meal took over 2 hours. This was definitely the worst hotel for service that I have ever come across having traveled though many countries around the world, I have never encountered worst service from a major hotel group. Definitely one to avoid if possible. If you do go there, take a packed meal and a sleeping bag it will save you a lot of wasted time.

Good Points: Beautiful gardens and building. Great leisure club with helpful staff. Generally very helpful staff. Good-sized and comfortable rooms. Bad Points: Limited food available in the evening, and nowhere cosy to eat it (other than our rooms). It would have been good to have maps available of the surrounding public footpaths and the gardens for keen walkers. General review: I and my elderly father were impressed.
