Eleven of us OAP's, visited the Three Horseshoes to celebrate a friend’s 80th birthday. His son had very kindly booked thirty places, including us, and in doing so had asked for a big shepherds pie to be cooked because this was a favourite of the 'Birthday boy’ The pie was on the specials board together with a sweet and only one price was displayed and that was £4.50. The manager Mr Mitchell greeted us and explained that enough pie had been cooked for 20 people. We were told all twenty portions must eaten or we would have to pay for that amount. In view of that fact - and the price was so good eight of us OAP’s ordered the aforesaid. When served, the pie was laid out on one tray with a bowl of vegetables. The vegetables ran out even though half the pie was still left. When we asked for more vegetables a big bowl of baked beans were brought out, explaining there were no more fresh vegetables, all twenty portions were sold. Imagine our disappointment when we were asked to pay £7.50 for the pie per head, we were told the £4.50 was for the sweet only. The pie was very tasty but considering we served ourselves and only half our group had fresh vegetables I feel we were seriously let down. We complained to Mr Mitchell but to no avail. He explained that beef is very expensive. At £150.00 for twenty portions of pie, no wonder the cow is sacred in India. Mr Mitchell can consider himself very lucky because but for the fact it would have upset the person whose birthday for which it was planned, and the person who organised it, we would have left our £4.50 and walked out. As it was, we paid the £7.50 each and we did not have the sweet but needless to say there are eleven people who certainly will not patronise this establishment again.
