My son has just held is wedding at Egypt Mill on 19th March 2010. The hotel staff were absolutely fantastic and made the day a complete success, nothing was too much trouble. I can recommend this hotel for a wedding celebration with abosulte confidence.

Good Points: Quiet. Dark after lights out. Plenty of space. Bad Points: It was adjacent to the main hotel. As the weather was very lovely this was probably a bonus. Had it been wet it might have been different. General review: We booked online and printed out the confirmation. A few hours later you rang us to say you only actually had a compromise room as all of the twin bedded rooms were booked. In fact, the accommodation was absolutely fine but it did leave us wondering if we should have cancelled and gone elsewhere. A computer problem, I guess! For us, car parking was a condition as my wife has a hip problem and finds walking difficult. Your information did not really make it clear that you have ample parking facilities and because of this I specified at the time of booking that it was conditional on parking. I need not have bothered. The point is, one spends time weighing the pros & cons before taking a final decision, so what one looks for is simple, clear and truthful information. We enjoyed our stay and would come again.

Summary: do not go to the Egypt Mill to eat. AA rosette standards must have fallen dramatically for this place to be awarded any at all. Good points: extensive and interesting menu, pleasant surroundings. Bad points: dreadfully slow and patronising service, disappointing and very average food, questionable freshness of ingredients, intrusive muzak. The worst part of lunch at the Egypt Mill was that the service was unapologetically slow, even though hardly anyone else was there. We were seated quickly enough, because there was only one other occupied table in the restaurant, and we were given menus, but it then took nearly ten minutes before someone came to take our order. We all skipped starters and ordered main courses only. Then we waited. And waited. After forty minutes of being ostentatiously ignored by the staff, one of our group got up and went in search of service. After a hunt of a few minutes, he found a waiter, who said that the food was "just being plated". Ten minutes later, the waitress arrived with the food. When I asked what the problem had been, she gave me a look that suggested I was an idiot, and replied, "No problem, we just had several orders come in at once and were serving them in order." When my colleague asked why we had not been told that there would be such a long delay, he was also given the "you're an idiot" look, then told that "the lamb takes twenty minutes to cook". So (a) why not say so when we ordered and (b) what caused the other thirty minutes of delay? Above all, if they KNEW they'd be serving slowly, why not TELL us beforehand so that we didn't get cross? Anyway, when the food finally arrived, the plus points were that the portions were big and hot. The minus points were that it was decidedly ordinary, much more so than the menu had suggested. The person who had the "crayfish and prawn" found no evidence of crayfish, just what looked and tasted like supermarket prawns cooked from frozen, not fresh. Only the roast lamb was fresh and tasty. Needless to say, we left half our main courses and didn't even bother to look at the dessert menu or have any coffee.

We were a mixed group( with age range 36 - 86 !) and we all enjoyed our stay immensley, even the weather did not stop us enjoying the evenings out side sitting under the generouly large umberellas as we did have some wet weather. The grounds were beautiful and the old mill had been altered very cleverly. Our accomodation was faultless, as were the breakfasts. We would all with out exception recommend this hotel, and would certainly book again if we were in the area.

i was absolutley appalled by the service in egypt mill, after waiting for 1 hour for our food inbetween courses and having to ask more than once our evening was ruined. i noticed that our table was not the only one being ignored. unfortuately this is not the first time of disgraceful service, everytime we ate at egypt mill in the summer we were forgotton about, had to remind them severals time till our old and cold food reached us, this has happened everytime in have eaton in eygpt mill including three times recently and now which i assure i will not be dining in untill a vast improvment is made. my valentines experience was most unpleasent most of it spent trying to catch a member of staffs eye, whom by we were all ignored we spent three hours and had to push our taxi back. finally at the last straw having to ask for the bill and the coffee and the cheese and bisciuits all together, after having to ask for our desserts after 1 hour of waiting, we didnt recieve the bill and had to ask agian and rushed out, not having enjoed the meal atall. i am severely dissapointed and will wait for some improvment.

Good Points: It was clean and comforatble with a pleasant view over the mill stream. Bad Points: It was in a separate building which necessitated a walk outside to access the restaurants for breakfast and dineer. No real problem unless it rained. General Review: The hotel is situated in a very pleasant village set amongst some lovely scenery. There is ample free car parking, but it would have been better if, at the booking stage, I had been made aware that it was best to leave the luggage in the car until I had been to reception and been allocated my room. There is a notice to this effect displayed in the car park, but highlighting it earlier in the booking procedure would have helped. Access to all areas is via stairs. The hotel itself is delightful with an old world charm about it including a working waterwheel. All the staff with whom we came into contact were extremely pleasant and friendly and helped make our stay extremely enjoyable. The breakfasts, which were included in the price, were amongst the best I have experienced anywhere. There was a comprehensive dinner menu; the meals were of an excellent quality with very reasonable portions. Well situated for those who enjoy
