I feel bad for writing a negative review but it has to be done. There was a number of things that were wrong with the hotel. Hardly any hot water. Had to fill up the kettle up so we could get a warm bath. Hotel advertises sattelite television but we only got one channel. I Phoned reception and was told there was a problem and the sky was getting fixed the next week. Great. Went with my girlfriend for a quiet night away. We are young so dont really bother much about noise, But constatnt singing and shouting from the lounge downatairs at two ocklock in the morning well after the bar should have shut. People coming upstairs and falling into our room door waking us up. Got a phonecall at 9 in the morning waking us up asking us what time we were coming for Breakfast even though we told them when we checked in we didnt want breakfast. Then after eventually getting back to sleep the cleaner walks into room an hour before we were meant to check out. Had to explain we were leaving in an hour so could she just come back and clean room once we were away. When we were there we had a mcdonalds in the room and left the boxes on the table for the cleaner when she came back after we were away. A few days after we were home, I got a letter saying my name had been noted and I was not welcome at the hotel again and the manager was 'extremely disgusted' at how we left our room (because the cleaner hadnt been in). Further to this, they took an extra £25 from my card without my authorisation to cover the cost of the cleaner coming back . I called up and explained that the room wasnt cleaned and we aked the cleaner to come back once we were away an hour later. Spoke to a manager who refused to do anything and threatened me and hung up when I said I would be leaving a review of the hotel. A month later and several calls and i'm still waiting on a call back from the hotel manager owner to sort it out. Really would not recommend this hotel to anyone as very poorly organised and run and rooms are not up to much at all.

Good Points: Very friendly staff. Hotel with history, which I like. Good (and prompt) service at breakfast (particularly important to me), dinner and in the bar. Bad Points: As I was delivering training at another hotel at the far (southerly) end of Galashiels, Clovenfords was a bit far away for my early morning starts, but the service and the geniality more than compensated.

Good Points: A very comfortable bed, cotton top and bottom sheet. Towels changed every day. A settee in room a nice touch. It wqs clean and clearly valetted every day. It was no trouble to order something slightly different from the menu. Staff very accommodating Bad Points: Room a bit noisy but we were told it was above kitchen and it did all go quiet after 10pm.Window would not stay open and we had to prop it open. General Review: We had a very pleasant few days at the hotel combining business with pleasure. The food was very good served by courteous staff who seemed to genuinely want you to have a nice stay. Room a fair size, bathroom a good size. Clean towels every day and white cotton sheets. Meals good and available all day, but advisable to say if you want one of an evening. Possibly staff could ask you this at breakfast. We asked for an early breakfast one day and this was duly logged and seemed no trouble to provide. Breakfast staff a real credit to the place. When my husband had an early morning walk one day he was approached and asked if he would like his breakfast - a nice touch. Hotel quiet at night, which suited us. Thank you for a pleasant stay . We would return when up that way again

I stayed here with 5 friends on a golfing break in the Borders area for 3 nights. The hotel is clean, the bedrooms are excellent, having been fully refurbished and the service is friendly and staff welcoming and eager to please. The restaurant is a pleasant experience with good service and high quality food for a very reasonable price but, it is popular with local people as well as residents and tourists so it is advisable to book in advance. The full breakfast is excellent and the staff will accommodate almost any request for items not on the menu. All in all a very pleasant experience in a pleasant location.
