We dined downstairs at The Olive Press, getting Heathcote’s trademark excellent service. The chunky wooden furniture gives the place a slightly rustic feel, and the food is relatively simple in keeping with the decor. Straight to mains we had char-grilled rump-steak (best of the three, thick, rare and juicy); a similarly cooked fillet of red snapper (great fish, nice deep fillet caponata so-so); and hand-made burger (good meat but again the accompaniment was ok but not exciting). Better than these was the simple green salad we shared, given a touch of interest and a lift by the inclusion of mint and flaked salt, and the crispy chips that came with the two meat dishes. The puds were again competent but lacking zing: toffee and nut cheesecake, brownie, and Italian trifle, the last one being way above the rest. Simple is fine but with the normally top notch Heathcote’s you expect a twist that turns the simple sublime. We have eaten here much better before, and will again doubtless. Maybe the recession is causing depression.

Went for the Monday menu - 2 courses and half a bottle of house wine for £15. The food was superb, staff friendly and knowledgable - parking on the street right outside after 6:30pm is free. House wine was okay (the red is better than the white). Would definitely visit again

Over priced, no parking and the staff could do with a little training in the art of customer care. We would give it one more chance, however, lot of people would not. Living on a name isn't what it is about, especially if your not there???
