Crook, County Durham

Review of Crook by michael fairgrieve on March 18th, 2011
i was born in victoria howden-le wear then moved to the flats at the age of 4 next to what was then ramars dress factory.then moved to crook in then the new housing watergate estate.went to the aldermancape secondry modern school.have many good memories of crook in the sixties then a busy town plenty of bars, sadly most of them have closed now.always remember if you wernt in the belvue working mens club for 6 you wouldnt get a seat upstairs.changed times place is empty now.always wondered why they call it a market town when the main industry was coal mining.have been back to crook on afew occations used to stay in the uplands hotel till they knocked it down shame on them should have been saved, money again.same with the co op building should have been saved and in its place council offices what a monstrosity another peace of crooks history wiped.now living in northern ireland have been for the last 37years after coming out of the army.still love to get back to crook to see family and friends live in belfast crook is still my home.
