Carbis Bay is a village and seaside resort situated in the south western corner of Great Britain in the county of Cornwall. The village get’s part of its name from the bay it overlooks. Being on the north coast of Cornwall it faces out onto the Atlantic coast. The village is about one mile to the south of
St Ives on the western side of St Ives Bay. Carbis Bay is bordered to the west by Porthminster Point and to the east by Hawke's Point. In Cornish, the area’s indigenous language, the village is known as ‘Karrbons’. Carbis Bay is almost joined to St Ives by development but Lelant, an older settlement one mile to the south, has closer historical ties with the village. The 2001 census gave the combined population of Carbis Bay/Lelant as 3482. The bay is connected to the surrounding area not only by road but also by one of Britain’s few profitable branch lines. The St Ives Bay Line railway serves the village via a station on the top of the cliff behind the bay. The line connects Carbis Bay to St Ives, Lelant, and St Erth. St Erth station is the connection to the Main line to London
