Born 1769 . Died 1852 Walmer Castle - Military commander & statesman

Born Arthur Wesley (Wellesley after 1798). Studied at a military school at Angers. Sent to India in 1797 where he had military and administrative success. On return 1805 was knighted. Elected MP for Rye 1806 – 1809. Released from duties to defeat Danes at Sjaelland and French at Waterloo in 1815. Returned to politics, retired from public life in 1846. Buried in St Paul’s Cathedral.
