Frederick Marryat

Died on 9th of August 1848
1792 - 1848. English naval officer and novelist.
Served in the West Indies and Burma before resigning in 1830 to take up writing. Novels on sea life included Frank Mildmay (1829), Peter Simple (1933) and Mr Midshipman Easy (1834). Financial losses forced retirement to small farm in Norfolk where he wrote children’s stories including Children of the New Forest (1847).
