Born 1884 - on a yacht off Nova Scotia. Died 1976 - English novelist, painter and critic.

Educated at Slade School of Art, London. Co-founded the Vorticist movement and the magazine Blast (1914-15). Served as bombardier and war artist during WWI. Novels included Tarr (1981), The Childermass (1928), Revenge of Love (1937) and Self Condemned (1954). Also wrote political and critical essays, short stories and his autobiographies. Skilled portraitist painting Ezra Pound, Edith Sitwell and T S Eliot.
