BOOK BELGRAVIA HOTELS

Nancy Mitford
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Belgravia, London
Born on 28th of November 1904
Died on 30th of June 1973

Nancy Mitford was perhaps the most gifted of the celebrated (and in Diana and Unity’s case foul) Mitford sisters, who became a novelist of some note – Love in a Cold Climate the best known of her works – and biographer of largely French subjects including Voltaire and Madame de Pompadour. She was also one of the originators of the idea of U and non-U language. Her personal life after a privileged youth was rather tragic: a failed marriage, a hopeless long-term love, and a painful and drawn out struggle with the cancer that killed her.
