Born 1641. Died 1712 - Botanist and physician.

Studied at Pembroke College, Cambridge. He published Comparative Anatomy of the Stomach and Guts in 1681. His Anatomy of Plants (1682) described crucial differences between the plant stem and root and discovered that the stamen is the male organ of the plant. Considered to be one of the pioneers of dactyloscopy.
