He graduated in experimental physics at the Queen’s University of Belfast in 1948, and went on to complete a PhD in Birmingham, specialising in nuclear physics and quantum field theory. His major avocation was investigating the fundamentals of quantum theory and he is remembered for being the originator of Bell’s Theorem.
