Marsden is a small village set within the Pennine Moors in the western reaches of Yorkshire, home to nearly three and a half thousand people. The village has a fascinating history which started with Bronze Age settlers, followed by the Romans, and later the mill workers, all of which have played a part in Marsden's history. The impressive buildings hail from its mill working heritage when several mills sprang up around the village as the woollen industry thrived, remnants of other chapters of history can also be seen with the village stocks dating back to the Middle Ages, and the ancient Pack Horse bridge and church. There are several restaurants with tasty offerings, pubs, and bars to try, and for the avid shopper there is a choice of shops. The village is positioned within pleasing and dramatic countryside where there are footpaths and trails to explore, and with the Colne river flowing through the village possibly riverside walks may be first choice. Artists and photographers are kept busy with picturesque scenes at Tunnel End where the Huddersfield Canal flows in Marsden rewarding visitors with sights of colourful Narrow Boats and delightful wildlife, or for foot tapping pleasure there is always the Jazz Festival which, if timed right may be in full swing.
