Featherstone is an interesting town positioned in West Yorkshire, between the busy towns of Pontefract and Wakefield and is home to over sixteen thousand people. The town dates back far in time, and has a rich mining heritage when many of the townsfolk laboured in the nearby colliery. In 1893 the Miners held a strike, soldiers were called in to help deal with the situation, however, after the attempts from the local bobby to calm the rising heat of the strike, they fired their guns which led to the demise of two of the Miners. This moment in time is immortalised with the poignant sculpture placed in the Shopping Precinct in the centre of town. There is a diverse range of architecture from across the years including a pleasant Inn which dates back to the 17th Century, Victorian houses, and modern buildings which line the roads. There is a vast choice of shops on offer, a variety of restaurants catering to every taste, cafes, tea shops, and bars to try. Those who wish to enjoy the great outdoors can stroll over to Purston Park where the promise of a lake and children's play area will be kept, and whether it's a short stay or longer one there's a range of B&B's and Hotels to chose from.
