The tiny village of Godney (God's Isle) lies in the Somerset Levels just south of the cathedral city of Wells. The old name is a reference to the fact that the land surrounding the village was once under water for most of the year before the levels were drained. Godney is on the banks of the River Sheppey and is just south of the Mendip Hills with Glastonbury and the famous Tor just the a few miles south of the village. It's a rural and secluded spot well away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. The level terrain and expansive horizons make this an ideal area for both walkers and cyclists. Godney is a thriving village with an innovative community and many events which draw visitors from far afield. The village put on the spring Duck Races and autumn Raft Races, and the celebrated fancy dress Boxing Day Pram Race. In November, there are fireworks and in summer rounders matches and the annual village fete. Godney's village hall can be hired for parties and hosts a variety of community events such as Pilates, bowls and computer classes Godney is also home to a celebrated amateur dramatic society (GADS) who stage up to three plays a year including a sell-out Christmas pantomime.
