The Wallace Monument commemorates Sir William Wallace, Scotland's greatest freedom fighter. 246 steps take you to the top of the tower for panoramic views over Stirling and the Forth Valley. This Gothic tower sits proudly on the Abbey Craig. From this rocky crag, Wallace watched the English army gather before the Battle of Stirling Bridge.
Visit Bannockburn Heritage Centre. Robert the Bruce defeated King Edward II's army here in 1314. Scotland achieved the independence William Wallace had fought for and Bruce became the undisputed King of Scotland. The Kingdom of the Scots exhibition brings the Wars of Independence to life.
Stirling is only a few miles from historic Doune and Dunblane and the Victorian spa of Bridge of Allan. You can travel to Glasgow in 30 minutes or to Edinburgh in 50 minutes.
