Totland Bay is a gentle, west-coast resort, ideal for families with small children or visitors who are happy to relax by the shore and watch the sun go down magnificently over the Solent. The sheltered beach, which flies a Seaside Award Flag, has both clean sand and shingle with a special picnic area, a warm backdrop of trees and greenery and a set of steps leading up and away to higher ground. Amusements, shops, cafés and a pub/restaurant are on hand on the waterfront, with refreshments also available on the pier. Totland Bay provides a camp beach and beach huts as well as the more traditional seaside accommodation, and its waters are ideal not just for swimming but for jet-skiing and windsurfing. The promenade invites a comfortable stroll to the neighbouring rural beach community of Colwell Bay while, for more adventurous walkers, the chalk cliffs of the downs present an irresistible pleasure. Totland Bay is ideally placed for outings to some of the island's biggest attractions. It's only two miles north east of the celebrated Alum Bay which embraces The Needles, their lighthouse and an exciting pleasure park, and it's within easy reach of both Freshwater and Yarmouth shopping centres.
