County Review by Theresa on July 15th, 2006I was born and raised in this beautiful isle. After working on the mainland for several years, I can't wait to return on regular trips. The walks in the countryside are amongst the best in Britain, and I would recommend anyone to come and see for themselves.

Rookley is a lovely little village. My advice is not to stay at the Rookley Country Park. On the face of it this holiday village is ideal, but the reality is far from ideal. We stayed as a family in a tent in August 2007. Cattle were treated better than the compers. Lots of very disgruntled people. The indoor swimming pool and changing facilities were constantly filthy. A urinal overflowed for the full 10 days that we were there. The 2 sinks for dishwashing we completely inadequate for the 20-30 tents and all of the motor home tourers. The service in the restaurant was obismal. We waited for an hour to be served the wrong food (and we weren't the only ones that had a problem). When we complained it fell on deaf ears, and this inspired me to warn others of this ghastly sham of a camping site.

We were so looking forward to celebrating my partner's October 2006 birthday in the 'Sunshine Restaurant'. Food very good, service awful! so much so I sent a letter of complaint, to which, to this date, 7th November 06 have yet to receive a response!!!
Shame, did have high hopes, certainly put me (and anyone I know!) off eating there again.

What a beautiful place, have been in love with the island for a long time but only really 'discovered' Shanklin last year when we stayed in B&B there.
Something for everyone, the beautiful old village, the chine, the beach and the cliff walk to Sandown. A delightful little town and i cant resist telling everyone about it.

shanklin is an old fashioned small and traditional village/ resort but my family and I love it. we have been coming here for 40 years and still enjoy sand castling on the beach, the walk up the steps of death at the end of the beach to the cliff top and, best of all, Shanklin Chine which is a fantastic oasis of luch greenery that has to be seen to be believed. Go for an early season break - its really quite sweet!

Shorwell is a gorgeous little village which is a great get away from all the stress of city life. I stayed in a wonderful little b&b called the lychgate (www.geocities.com/thelychgate). Im a keen walker and found Shorwell to be a great base to explore the island. The Crown Inn comes highly recommmended as the food is super.

Review of St Helens by Martin on June 20th, 2011
St Helens sits in the centre of a rough triangle whose points are Ryde, Bembridge and Sandown, so a couple of miles inland but with several coasts in easy reach, and the countryside westwards holding a wealth of attractions.
