Port Appin is a small fishing village situated on the coast of Appin in the Argyll region of Scotland. The picturesque village overlooks the small islands around Loch Linnhe including Lismore, Morvern and Mull and is over-shadowed by the famous Munro Mountains. Port Appin dates back to 1750 operating a ferry-link service to the island of Lismore. The Steamers from Glasgow to Inverness used the port as a stop-off point bringing with it a steam of tourists to the tranquil area. A passenger-only ferry is still in operation for the short-trip from the pier to the neighbouring island. There are restaurants, holiday accommodation, shopping facilities and a garden centre in the village. Attractions include Castle Stalker built in 1495 by Duncan Stewart of Appin, the castle sits to the north of the village on a rock-island in Loch Laich. The area is popular with walkers, climbers and cyclists. Other out-door pursuits includes boat-hire, sailing, windsurfing, water-skiing, clay-pigeon shooting and pony-trekking. The 18-hole Glencruitten Golf Course is a short drive from the village. Nearby attractions include the town of Oban with the Oban Distillery; the Inverawe Fisheries which is a fly-fishing centre, a sea-plane can be hired to sight-see from the sky and there are boat-cruises on Loch Linnhe and Loch Etive to view the beautiful scenery and wildlife.
