Dalmally is a small village in the Strath of Orchy, Argyll and Bute in Scotland. The settlement is thought to have begun c1450 to serve the historic Kilchurn Castle, built by the first Lord of Glenorchy, Sir Colin Campbell. The castle ruins stand east of the village by Loch Awe. Dalmally is a popular tourist destination surrounded by lochs, rivers, mountains and beautiful scenery, there shops and amenities, hotel and holiday accommodation, places to eat and a railway station operating on the Glasgow to Oban line. There are nine walks leaving from Dalmally post-office to explore historic sites including the old ruined village and Paddys Point, the Duncan Ban Monument, the Old Military Road, the Parish Church and the 18th century Bridges, Kilchurn Castle and Cruachan lower slopes and St Conan’s Kirk and Glen Strae. Dallmally also lies on the long distance ‘Coast to Coast Walk’ from Oban to St. Andrews. The peaks of Beinn Lui stand in the east, Glen Kinglas Mountains are to the north and the seven tops of the Beinn Cruachan group are to the west. The five-star Cruachan Visitor Centre is housed in a man-made cavern inside Beinn Cruachan. Dalmally has its own Golf Course and Loch Awe has fishing for trout, perch and pike. There are steam-boat trips from Lochawe pier to Kilchurn Castle during the summer months.
