Cairndow is a village sitting at the head of Loch Fyne on the Cowal Peninsula in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, situated at the mouth of River Kinglas approximately one hours drive from Glasgow. Historically interesting features include the Stagecoach Inn, one of the oldest coaching inns in Scotland where Queen Victoria is said to have changed horses here in 1875 and the octagonal shaped Kilmorich Parish Church built in 1820 at the south end of the village. Cairndow is surrounded by lochs, rivers, mountains and beautiful scenery, it is a popular tourist resort known for boating, sea angling and centrally positioned for touring many of Argyll’s main attractions including Loch Lomond, the Mull of Kintyre, the Kyles of Bute and up to the west Scottish Highlands. The village has various holiday accommodation, shops and amenities, a sea-food restaurant with shop and The Tree Shop, with café, which sells locally crafted gifts. Attractions include the Ardkinglas Estate and Woodland Garden with collections of trees and shrubs including the tallest tree in Britain standing 67m, there are woodland trails and the chance to see red squirrels. Loch Fyne is the third longest sea lochs in Scotland with marine wildlife cruises, diving charters and fishing charters. The nearest town is Inveraray, home to the historic Inveraray Castle, a museum and the 19th century jail-house.
